Delivering Carrier-Grade Mobile Connectivity at Victoria Cross OSD

A fully integrated active Mobile DAS using the CommScope ERA platform was designed in Victoria Cross Over-Station Development

Overview

Located in the heart of North Sydney CBD, Victoria Cross integrated station development is part of Australia’s biggest public transport program, Sydney Metro.

The integrated station development features a new metro station located 31 metres below ground level, as well as over-station developments (OSD), including the construction of a new three-level commercial and retail hub and a 42-storey commercial office building that will sit on top of the southern entrance of the station.

The Challenge

The Victoria Cross Over‑Station Development required reliable, carrier‑grade mobile coverage across complex OSD and retail environments, delivered in parallel with a separate station construction package.

Key challenges included:

• High user density and strong performance expectations
• Dense concrete and steel structures across multiple levels
• Complex interfaces between station works, OSD works and mobile carriers
• Pathway constraints requiring longer cable runs and alternative routing solutions

The Solution

RFI designed a fully integrated active Mobile DAS using the CommScope ERA platform to deliver consistent mobile coverage throughout the OSD and retail areas, while meeting Telstra acceptance requirements as the lead carrier.

The solution featured:

• RF and antenna design optimised for architectural and RF constraints
• 13 ERA remote locations sized for current demand and future scalability
• Large‑scale deployment of antennas and cabling delivered under live construction conditions
• End‑to‑end carrier integration, commissioning, walk testing and compliance reporting

Delivery

The project was delivered in staged packages aligned with construction sequencing and access constraints. Close coordination with the builder, client and carrier ensured seamless integration despite pathway and interface limitations.

All works were completed under strict quality, safety and compliance controls, culminating in a comprehensive handover package including as‑built documentation and verified performance results.

The completed DAS provides reliable mobile connectivity across all designated OSD and retail zones, supporting tenant operations and delivering a high‑quality user experience.
